Vallejo, CA June 28, 2022: The Vallejo Food Rescue Project (VFRP) is a first of its kind pilot project. VFRP will work to reduce food going into the landfill and get edible food back into the hands of the community.
Food is Free Solano, WAHEO Inc., FreeBites and Sustainable Solano received a Collaborative Problem-Solving Grant from the Office of Environmental Justice at the EPA. Over the next two years with this seed funding, the newly formed coalition will develop and implement an innovative, community-based solution to food insecurity by directly engaging with people impacted by food insecurity, local organizations and food producers who have excess food available.
This project will increase the understanding of food insecurity within Vallejo and how the community can respond to those needs within the framework of the Vallejo Food Rescue Project.
Become a VFRP Champion by helping to create a more equitable food system in Solano County.
